Living in Austin means living in a city celebrated for green living.
We were excited to learn about a free recycling guide made available by the City Of Austin … especially after we learned we were “over-cycling.” We’re not talking about bike riding in 5th gear here – we’re talking about our recycling efforts!
We learned there were some items that we thought to be recycle friendly … only to learn that they are banned from recycling – mainly do to the fact that our processing facilities use automated equipment that cannot handle things like:
- Pizza boxes (not even flattened ones)
- Shredded paper (gulp!)
- Paper cups, plates, napkins or towels
- Take out containers (yikes)
The good news is the guide is very easy to read. You can download the Austin Recycling Guide here at the Home Style Austin blog and you’ll probably want to visit the City of Austin’s website to learn more about proper recycling … including comprehensive recycling calendars, used battery drop-off locations and more.
Keeping our city green begins by living green in our homes. I hope this information is helpful to you for living green the Austin way!
